During this trip, we had three Scouts with us, Ernie, Andre, and Ariel.
We started the day with the whole troop at Tachikawa Station. After taking some group photos and getting packed up, we headed on our way. First, we all took the monorail. The kids got to sit up front and enjoy the view of the city from above. Everyone was a little restless after the monorail, so we took a quick detour for a snack break.
From there, it was a few more trains out into the countryside. All the kids really enjoyed riding the small, old-fashioned trains, buying their own tickets, and playing number games to pass the time.
Once we reached Seibukyujo-Mae, we began our trek through the mountains to the museum and obstacle course. Although the long walk was a challenge for everyone, we sang songs and played word games to help keep ourselves occupied.
After hiking for over an hour we finally reached our first destination, the museum. The museum showcased local history and wildlife, as well as Japanese culture. At the end of the museum tour, all the kids got to take home some prints from custom stamps, as well as write wishes to be displayed at the upcoming Tanabata Festival. Andre even wrote his wish in Japanese!
After the museum, we stopped at a park to eat lunch and take a short break. Then, it was on to the obstacle course. There were two courses available, one was a more strict course run, and the other was in a free play style. The kids had plenty of time to explore and try out both courses, with Mark and Dylan’s supervision and guidance. By the time we had to leave, everyone was tired out, so we washed up and got some ice cream as a treat.
To finish the day, we caught a shuttle bus to the monorail station, and took another monorail back to Tachikawa Station, where most everyone was dropped off. Everybody had a great time at Sayama Lake, learning new things and trying new challenges!
See you on the 7th,
Michelle
