Mt Shiroyama and Kobotoke Pass

It was cold, cloudy, and rainy today, but that didn't stop any of us from having a blast hiking up Mt Kobotoke-Shiroyama! So, after a drive out to Takao - full of silly stories and games - we had arrived.

It was raining much less now, but the ground and foliage was still wet. Mark went over some basic hiking safety rules, and we eagerly geared up for the hike. We let the scouts carry their backpacks for a while, but once it got too tiring, we happily carried them.

The Kobotoke Pass trail starts very relaxed for a few minutes, before getting more difficult in both terrain and incline. Twisting roots and a more rocky path made a great challenge for everyone, and by the time we reached the midpoint, we were happy to rest.

Our pace had been slow and steady for a while, so it was already just about time for lunch. We ate and rested well until it was time to go. Everyone cleaned up, did some exercise to get warm, before starting the latter half of the hike up. Rejuvenated, the scouts sped up, and not too long later we were nearing the peak.

On the way, the low clouds thickened, and small patches of snow emerged. At the top, we enjoyed the view and took a break. But, soon the scouts were ready to begin the hike down. We made our way back to the car at probably double the speed, and after some falling, and some getting back up, we were back at the lunch spot. We drank water and stretched, but there was only so much of the hike left, so we got right back to it.

The car was in sight in no time. We cleaned up our muddiness as best we could, before heading into Tokyo to end the day. On the way, we stopped for a snack to celebrate and talk, after which the scouts got some much needed sleep for the rest of the drive back.

Today was a great challenge for everyone, and very exciting the whole way through! This trail is quickly becoming a classic, as it's mix between challenge, beautiful nature, and rewarding views is amazing. See you next time!
